Greetings fellow classmates!
Welcome to my Blog, Eating your way through Portland, OR. I have never been one to journal or keep a diary, so this is my first go at sharing my thoughts for all to view. I have decided to blog about my favorite pass time, EATING! The purpose of this blog will be to share reviews of restaurants in and around Portland, OR. I don't know who has visited Portland, but I like to consider it one of the food capitals of the United States. In fact, food and wine are what brought me to Portland. Here is my story...
I grew up on the Central Coast of California in the heart of wine country. Most of my childhood memories involve running through vineyards, playing hide and go seek in the rolling hills, and wine tasting with my parents on the weekends. My parents were both teachers, so getting out and visiting the wineries on their days off was a much needed escape from the classroom. After I graduated from high school, I decided to follow my parent's foot steps and pursue a degree in Education. Half way through my Sophmore year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a few new majors caught my attention. Those majors were Viticulture and Wine Business. Ah Ha, I finally found my calling! I switched gears, and was able to focus on my passion.
After graduating college, I worked on a vineyard and managed a winery in Paso Robles, CA. I was itching to get out of the small town, and foodie magazines from all over were talking about this great place filled with spectacular restaurants and world famous Pinot Noir vineyards. That place was called Portland. At the time, all I knew about Portland was that it rained 300 days out of the year. I thought to myself, "why in the world would anyone want to live there?" As the buzz around Portland started to grow, I decided to pay the rainy city a visit. A friend of mine toured me around, and gave me a whirlwind tour of how to eat your way through Portland, OR. I was sold! Two weeks later, my car was packed and the adventure had started. Without a job or a place to live, I was moving to the land of food!
Fast forward six years, and I am still happily living in rainy, but food filled Portland, OR. Eating out every night got a little pricey, so I decided I better start dating a chef. Our love for good food and wine brought us together, and we are getting married in July! It sure is nice to come home to dinner made every night. My advice to any single ladies will be to find a man who can cook!
Enough about me, lets talk about food! Stay tuned for my very first foodie review on a little Mexican restaurant I visited last night in SE Portland.
Katie,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all your blog is so pretty! Second of all, now I'm craving some Mexican too! You've led a really exciting life it seems. Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I got married in July, too. Congrats again on getting married to a chef! You are very lucky. My husband can grill. That's the extent of it. Thank goodness for me the weather is warming up. The joke is on me though as I prepare everything he grills!!! Great blog. I never knew Portland had so much to offer.
Gina, thank you for the nice comment! Most people don't realize that Portland is such a food haven. But, the truth is that it does rain all the time and we have to have something to do, right? If you ever pay a visit to Portland, make sure you visit our food carts. In addition to hundreds upon hundreds of restaurants, the city boasts over 400 food carts throughout the neighborhoods. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHey Katie! If you're a foodie, you need to make your way to DC. Foodie heaven. My boyfriend and I love good food and wine and are out and about trying new places all the time.

I had no idea Portland had so much to do there. Possible vacation spot for sure.
Hi Tierra! Yes, I do consider myself to be a foodie. :) I have been to DC a few times, but have never explored the food scene too much. Sounds like there is a lot going on there! Thanks for the nice comments.
